New Delhi, 05 May (Hindustan Times). Union Home Minister Amit Shah has canceled his visit to Karnataka on Friday in view of the situation in Manipur. He is constantly monitoring the situation in Manipur and is in constant dialogue for the restoration of peace.

According to Home Ministry sources, Home Minister Amit Shah is monitoring the Manipur violence. In this regard, he held a meeting with top officials on Friday regarding the restoration of peace in Manipur. Sources say that the situation in Manipur is now under control.

Shah had yesterday interacted with the Chief Ministers of neighboring states including Nagaland, Mizoram and Assam through video conferencing on the situation in Manipur.

It is noteworthy that during the tribal agitation in Manipur, violence broke out in several districts of the state on Wednesday, after which the state government has suspended internet services for the next five days. Apart from this, curfew has been imposed in Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts.

A rally was organized in the state to protest against the demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the ST category. The rally was organized by All Tribal Students Union Manipur. During this, a case of outbreak of violence came to the fore. Many houses were vandalized by the protesters. During this violence broke out between tribals and non-tribals in the Torbang area. After this, there were reports of violence in many other districts as well. Police fired tear gas shells to control the crowd.

Regarding this matter, the Chief Minister of the state N. Biren Singh had said in his statement that incidents of clashes and vandalism have come to the fore at some places. These incidents happened because of the prevailing misunderstanding between the two sections. The state government is monitoring the situation. All steps are being taken to control it. It is noteworthy that in view of the assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was to address election rallies in Karnataka today.
