Moscow, 03 May (HS). Ukraine’s Defense Department has tweeted an objectionable picture of Maa Kali, to which Russia has reacted sharply. Condemning this act of Ukraine, Russia has compared it to Nazism.

In fact, on April 30, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine tweeted a picture amid a plume of smoke. It featured a garland of skulls around its neck with its tongue sticking out in a picture visible above a plume of smoke. The talk of making fun of Hindu faith by displaying it as Maa Kali came to the fore. Later, Ukraine had deleted this tweet after the controversy escalated. The government of Ukraine had also apologized for the tweet of its Defense Department.

Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Japrova had issued a statement saying that we and our Defense Department are ashamed for showing the Hindu goddess Maa Kali in a wrong way. Ukraine and the people of Ukraine respect Indian culture and appreciate their support. That photo has been removed and we remain dedicated to enhancing mutual cooperation and mutual respect.

Russia has also put Ukraine in the dock on this issue. Russia’s representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polinsky, said that Kiev’s government does not care about anyone’s faith, be it Hindu, Muslim or Christian Orthodox. Ukrainian soldiers are burning Qurans, mocking Maa Kali and destroying holy sites of Orthodox Christians. He only believes in Nazi ideology. He considers Ukraine above all.
