The direct impact of the decrease in the demand for both real and lab grown diamonds was seen on the diamond industry of Surat. Summer vacation comes every now and then in the diamond industry. This holiday is about 7 to 10 days. However, this time a month-long holiday has come in the diamond industry.
For the last two years, the demand for genuine diamonds is decreasing. Meanwhile, Surat’s diamond industry is facing a recession as the demand for Surat’s labgrown diamonds is declining in the global market. However, diamond traders expect demand to pick up again after a month. Currently, the holidays have started in the diamond industry. In which the date of completion of leave has not been given. If the holidays are prolonged, the condition of the jewelers can be very bad. Currently, the diamond industry is worried about the declining demand for real and labgrown diamonds from Surat globally.
On the other hand, the economic condition of the jewelers has become very bad. That’s why Surat Diamond Workers Union has demanded to start Ratnadeep scheme before the government. As the diamond industry is facing a downturn, gemworkers are being laid off. Along with this, the working hours have also been reduced. Along with the fixed salary, the gem artists working as freelancers are struggling to find work. This has made it very difficult for gem artists to make a living financially. The diamond industry is worried about a slowdown ahead of the summer holidays.
On the other hand, Heera Shramik Sangh has entered the fray to provide justice to the jewelers. In the global recession of 2008, the government implemented the Ratnadeep scheme. Similarly, there has been a demand to implement the Ratnadeep Yojana in the current recession. With this scheme, the livelihood of the jewelers can go on. Along with this, the allowance given by the government for learning diamond will be beneficial in recession. That’s why the Diamond Workers Union has requested the government to implement the Ratnadeep Yojana keeping in view the interest of the gem artists.
