The work of Delhi Metro will not stop

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the work on the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro, saying any intervention at this juncture would result in huge cost overruns.

The fourth phase of Delhi Metro will have six corridors, including Aerocity to Tughlakabad, Indralok to Indraprastha, Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block, Mukundpur to Maujpur, Janakpuri West to R.K. Of. Bawana and Narela are included from Ashram and Rithala.

A bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Vikram Nath said that there is a provision for planting uprooted trees. The bench said that there is no doubt that the concern for the environment is an important aspect, however, developmental work like Metro Railway cannot be ignored as it will serve the needs of crores of people and reduce carbon emissions, At the same time, the number of vehicles on the roads will reduce.

The apex court cautioned the Delhi Metro to be careful in future while planning further steps. This direction of the bench has come on a petition against the metro construction work.
