It is about the composer Alexandru Podoleanu, who lived between 1846 and 1907, being born in Neamț, in the village of Podoleni. He is one of the few Romanian teachers, who asserted himself as a personality of choral religious music and among the first composers of this type of music.

According to historian Mircea Păcurariu, Podoleanu first studied at the School of Church Singing at the Neamț Monastery, and then at the Conservatory of Music in Bucharest, under the direction of Professor Eduard Wachmann.

Thus, Podoleanu is the one who composed the religious hymn “Christ is Risen!”, but other well-known songs are also connected to his name, such as the carol “Good morning to Santa Eve!”, “Florile Dalbe” or “Multi years live” or “Eternal remembrance”.

In itself, the hymn “Christ is risen!” is a paschal tropar, i.e. a short prayer that announces or explains in a poetic form the liturgical event celebrated that day, being usually sung at the end of Vespers (evening service – no) and Matins or the beginning of Matins (morning service – no ).

Initially this tropar was composed in Greek, after which it spread among the Orthodox peoples of Eastern Europe.
