Former minister’s mother shot dead by security guard near PM’s residence in Nepal

Kathmandu, 15 April (Hindustan). Security guard in Nepal shot Tirtha Mali, mother of ex-minister Barshaman Pun. The incident took place at 9 pm on Friday night at Baluwatar near the Prime Minister’s residence in the capital Kathmandu. Here the guard posted in VIP security suddenly opened fire. The bullet hit the leg of 74-year-old Teerth Mali. She is badly injured.

Nepal Police says that the accused constable Prakash escaped after firing again. He was arrested on Saturday morning and kept at the police headquarters. He was posted under the security of Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki. He is also a relative of the former minister. The incident is being investigated.

Police claim that the constable had attended a family function on the occasion of New Year in Nepal. According to preliminary investigation, constable Prakash Pun fired after an altercation during a family function under the influence of alcohol.

CPN (MC) deputy general secretary and former minister Varshaman Pune was not present at the time of the incident. He has gone to China for treatment. Varshman Pun is the husband of former Speaker Onsari Gharti. Both Barshman and Onsari do not live in the house where the shooting took place. Only his parents live there.
