17% increase in building permits in March

The Planning and Statistics Authority has issued monthly data on building permit statistics and building completion certificates issued by all municipalities of the country.
Building permit data and building completion certificates are of particular importance as they are a rough indicator of the performance of the construction sector, which in turn occupies an important position in the national economy.

First: Building Permits:
Al Rayyan Municipality comes at the forefront of the municipalities in terms of the number of building permits issued, as it issued 184 permits, or 28% of the total permits issued, while Al Wakra Municipality came in second place, with 131 permits, or 20%, followed by Al Daayen Municipality, as it issued 126 permits, i.e. 19%, followed by Doha Municipality with 115 licenses, i.e. 17%. The remaining municipalities are as follows:
Umm Salal 40 permits 6%, Al Khor 36 permits 5%, Al Sheehaniya 24 permits 4%, and finally Al Shamal 10 permits 2%.
As for the type of permits issued, the data indicates that the number of permits for new buildings (residential and non-residential) constituted 36% (240 permits) of the total building permits issued during March 2023, while permits for building additions accounted for 60% (402 permits). Finally, hedging licenses by 4% (24 licenses).
By analyzing the data of new residential building permits, we find that villa permits top the list, as they accounted for 80% (153 permits) of the total new residential building permits, followed by apartment buildings with a rate of 12% (23 permits), then housing loan housing category with a rate of 6% ( 11 licenses).
On the other hand, we note that commercial buildings and industrial buildings such as workshops and factories come at the forefront of permits for new non-residential buildings with 41% (20 permits) each, followed by government buildings with 8% (4 permits), then mosques with 6% (3 permits).
When comparing the number of licenses issued during March 2023 with the number of licenses issued during the previous month, we find that there is an increase of 3%. This increase was clearly observed in most municipalities: Al Sheehaniya (140%), Al Shamal (25%), Al Khor (24%), Al Rayyan (18%), Al-Wakra (3%), Al-Daayen (2%). On the other hand, there was a clear decrease in the municipality of Umm Salal (29%), and Doha (15%).

Second: Building Completion Certificates
In a quick review of the data on building completion certificates issued during the month of March 2023 according to their geographical distribution, we find that Al-Rayyan Municipality comes at the forefront of municipalities in terms of the number of building completion certificates issued, as it issued 96 certificates, or 24% of the total building completion certificates issued, while Al Daayen Municipality came in second place with 87 certificates, or 22%, followed by Al Wakra Municipality, which issued 81 certificates, or 20%, and then Doha Municipality, with 63 certificates, or 16%.
The remaining municipalities are as follows:
Umm Salal 30 certificates 7%, Al Khor and Al Shamal 18 certificates 4% each for each municipality, Al Sheehaniya 8 certificates 2%.
In terms of the type of certificates issued, the data indicates that the number of new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constituted 78% (313 certificates) of the total building completion certificates issued during March 2023, while certificates of completion of building additions constituted 22% (88 certificates). certificate).
By analyzing the data of new residential building completion certificates, we find that villa certificates top the list, constituting 84% (203 certificates) of the total new residential building completion certificates, followed by housing loan housing category with 7% (17 certificates), then apartment buildings with 6%. On the other hand, we note that commercial buildings come at the forefront of certificates of completion of new non-residential buildings by 54% (39 certificates), followed by industrial buildings such as workshops and factories by 26% (19 certificates), then mosques by 13% (9 certificates).
When comparing the number of certificates issued during March 2023 with the number of certificates issued during the previous month, we find that there is a general increase of 17%. This increase was observed in most municipalities: Al Shamal (500%), Al Daayen (30%), Al Rayyan (22%), Doha (11%), Al-Khor (6%), and Umm Salal (3%). On the other hand, there was a clear decrease in Al-Wakra municipality (2%), while Al-Sheehaniya municipality did not witness any change.
