Extreme weather wreaks havoc in Romania: closed schools, blocked roads and power outages

In the town of Tețcani in Neamț County, a bus carrying 33 minors and three adults got stuck in the snow. All the people were picked up and transported to the Garrison Home in Roman municipality. In Botoșani and Iași counties, classes were suspended in all pre-university education units for the sixth of April.

In Botoșani county, a pregnant woman gave birth at home, assisted by two local midwives as well as the coordinating doctor from the ISU dispatch center via video call. The woman and the newborn have no health problems. Emergency responders were unable to reach the request due to heavy snow.

Rescuers also intervened to retrieve and transport to hospital seven patients requiring dialysis, as well as two hypertensive patients and one patient with a cut wound.

In Iași county, they intervened in the localities of Slobozia and Șigănași for the transport of two pregnant women, who required medical care.

At around seven in the morning, national and county roads were closed in Botoșani and Iași counties.

Road traffic is carried out in winter conditions in the counties of Bacău, Botoșani, Iași, Neamț, Suceava and Vaslui, where anti-skid materials are used.

Airports and ports are operational, no problems have been reported regarding rail traffic.

From the point of view of electricity supply, breakdowns were recorded in 23 localities in two counties. Thus, around 6,273 final consumers are disconnected from electricity.
