The government told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has completed public consultations on the draft ‘National Data Governance Policy’ aimed at enhancing access, quality and use of data in line with emerging technology needs. Is. This information was given by Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in a written reply to the question of Shyam Singh Yadav in the Lok Sabha.
The Union Minister informed that the proposed National Data Governance Policy aims to ensure that non-personal and anonymized data of public and private sector entities should be securely accessible to academia and startups with the aim of promoting innovation and research.
Vaishnav explained that it provides an institutional framework for controlling data access and use, streamlining inter-governmental data access, ensuring data quality and compliance with meta data standards, and setting anonymous guidelines. He informed that data is an important input for any artificial intelligence (AI) based system, keeping in mind that the government has developed an Open Government Data Platform. Presently 6,01,059 data resources of various central and state departments are available on this platform.
The Union Minister informed that India is a founding member of the Global Alliance on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) which joined the initiative on 15 June 2020.
