Memorandum of Understanding between KAHRAMAA and “Our Heritage”

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented by the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), signed a memorandum of cooperation and understanding with the “Erthuna” Center, a member of Qatar Foundation, aimed at supporting sustainability efforts. The memorandum was signed on behalf of Kahramaa by Eng. Ahmed Al-Nasr, Director of Technical Affairs, and on behalf of (Our Legacy) Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of the Center, yesterday, Monday, in the main Kahramaa building located in Al Dafna.
The memorandum aims to work on developing public policies related to electricity and water sustainability and energy efficiency in the State of Qatar, and it deals with ten main items aimed at developing innovative research and development projects related to energy efficiency and ways to reduce the consumption of electricity and water resources and reduce harmful carbon emissions.
The memorandum will enable the two parties to enhance joint work between them and build a strategy aimed at reviewing energy and water efficiency in existing buildings in the country, by launching a set of initiatives in the governmental, commercial and residential sectors, such as the environmentally friendly schools initiative and hotels eligible for the green key. This memorandum lays down guidelines for developing the necessary standards for existing buildings and the announced regulations (energy and water efficiency rationalization code) and a guide for best practices that the “Our Heritage” center worked on developing. In light of the memorandum, it will be recommended to hold two annual capacity-building courses targeting employees concerned with energy efficiency in various sectors, and preparing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon trading reports.
Commenting on the signing of the memorandum, Eng. Rashid Al-Rahimi, Director of the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, stated that the message of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” is to enhance the efficiency of water and electricity use in the State of Qatar by spreading the regulations, technologies and culture of rationalization to create a model environment and achieve a successful social partnership. Stressing the importance of preserving the country’s vital resources, taking into account the requirements of social and economic growth, as well as working to achieve the desired goals to reduce levels of electricity and water consumption.
Al-Rahimi added that this challenge requires the concerted efforts of all concerned parties in the country, and pointed to the main role of energy sustainability technologies in buildings with regard to electricity and water, which can achieve effective and quick results, highlighting the important role of developing work policies related to the sustainability of the country’s electricity and water resources. and applicable regulations.
On a related level, Eng. Mishaal Al-Shammari, Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships at the Werthna Center, expressed his happiness with this partnership, and said: “The efforts of the ‘Erthuna – Center for a Sustainable Future’, which was founded by Qatar Foundation, focus on dedicating intellectual leadership in making policies related to sustainability, defining Prioritizing and strengthening policies, strengthening links between the fields of education, research and industry, and expanding Qatar Foundation’s cooperation networks locally and internationally.
Al-Shammari added, “We are particularly interested in sustainability and renewable energy, and making the most of testing the latest technologies and practices, and applying them in a sustainable manner in various sectors. Which we will enhance through our cooperation with “Kahramaa” represented by “Tarsheed” to achieve energy efficiency at the level of the public and private sectors.
The memorandum of understanding comes to confirm the continuation of fruitful cooperation between the two sides in terms of achieving benefit and benefit in terms of sustainability in buildings and facilities in the State of Qatar, in line with the steps aimed at implementing the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change and Qatar National Vision 2030.
