Farmers’ group ‘Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti’ (KMSC) in Punjab called off their “rail roko” protest on Monday after the district administration assured them of their demands.

Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Agarwal met the representatives of KMSC and discussed their demands, following which the farmers called off their protest organized at Batala railway station in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district.

Significantly, the farmers started protesting on Sunday over various demands including land acquired for road projects and fair compensation for crop loss due to inclement weather.

Six trains were canceled on Monday due to the ‘Rail Roko’ protests.

Earlier in the day, farmers raised slogans against the Center and the Punjab government by standing their tractors on the railway tracks.
