Jamaat-inclined Human Rights Watch attempts to obstruct Rohingya repatriation

While there is ongoing dangerous bids by a number of vested interest groups in obstructing the process of repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar and finally use this massive size of Rohingya population towards destructive acts, terrorism and militancy, in a latest attempt Human Rights Watch (HRW), which is known for its romance with Jamaat-e-Islami and anti-Bangladesh elements has made naked bids of disrupting Rohingya repatriation. Despite such notorious bids of obstructing return of over 1.20 million Rohingyas who are temporarily sheltered in Bangladesh since 2017, authorities concerned in Bangladesh are reluctant in taking effective measures in countering such evil actions of HRW and other anti-Bangladesh and pro-Jamaat groups.

Recently, Myanmar authorities signaled to beginning the repatriation process of Rohingyas by taking a first batch comprising small number of Rohingyas as pilot project. It is expected that this process will gradually open prospects for Rohingyas in getting repatriated in Myanmar and subsequently receive documents in favor of their citizenship. But organizations like Human Rights Watch have gone mad at this development and started nefarious propaganda with the goal of generating confusions within the Rohingya community.

On March 31, 2023, Human Rights Watch published a statement claiming, repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar under military junta would “threaten lives and freedoms”.

In its statement, Meenakshi Ganguly, South Asia director at Human Rights Watch said “Voluntary, safe, and dignified returns of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar are not possible while the military junta is carrying out massacres around the country and apartheid in Rakhine State. Bangladesh authorities should stop deceiving these refugees to get them to engage with junta officials when it’s clear that Rohingya will only be able to return safely when rights-respecting rule is established”.

It may be mentioned here that, Rohingyas are wrongly termed as refugees by HRW.

The organization also concocted statement of “Rohingya” stating “Rohingya told Human Rights Watch that they were lied to, deceived, or otherwise coerced by Bangladesh administrators into meeting with a recent delegation of Myanmar junta officials as part of a “pilot repatriation” effort to return about 1,000 refugees. Some were told the meetings concerned possible resettlement to a third country”.

Human Rights Watch is maintaining deeper connections with Jamaat-e-Islami, Bangladesh Nationalist Party and several anti-Awami League elements in Bangladesh. It is also accused of serving purpose of BNP-Jamaat nexus and maintaining relations with a dubious NGO named Adhikar.
