The Assam government distributed Rs 63.05 crore as financial incentive to 370 tea gardens in the state to help mitigate the adverse impact of the pandemic.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said that the tea industry is the backbone of the state’s economy and accounts for about 90 per cent of its gross export value.
In addition it provides direct and indirect employment to more than one million people. At the economic assistance distribution program on Thursday, Sharma said, “It is the huge impact of the tea industry on the economy of Assam that the state government has prepared the Assam Tea Industry Special Incentive Scheme, 2020 to help the sector recover from the shocks of the Kovid-19 epidemic.” I can get help.
He informed that an additional subsidy of Rs 2 per kg would be given on orthodox tea during 2023-24 to commemorate 200 years of tea production in Assam.
