Police and fire brigade pulled out 42 people trapped in Indore’s six-storey hotel after a fire broke out on Wednesday morning. A police officer gave this information.

Rau police station in-charge Narendra Raghuvanshi said that 42 people staying in ‘Papaya Tree Hotel’ were trapped in the fire, who were pulled out by the police and fire brigade. He told that 10 people who were evacuated from the hotel have been sent to the hospital, most of whom were having trouble breathing due to the smoke filling the hotel.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (Fire) RS Ningwal said the fire started from the terrace of the ground floor of the hotel and smoke filled the building. He said that the fire was brought under control after a lot of effort and proper fire fighting arrangements were not found in the hotel.

The superintendent of police said, “The hotel management has installed a ‘hydrant’ (fire extinguishing system) which is connected to the normal electricity connection. The ‘hydrant’ did not work due to power failure during the fire.

Ningwal said that if the hotel management had kept the ‘hydrant’ connected to the generator, it could have been used to douse the flames immediately. He said that he would write a letter to the district administration and the Indore Municipal Corporation to take appropriate action against the hotel management.

Meanwhile, a video of the fire incident has surfaced on social media. In this, some people trapped on the sixth floor of the hotel are seen hanging down like a rope by tying sheets, while the fire brigade is seen taking them down with the help of a ladder.

The Superintendent of Police said, “These people wanted to jump down from the hotel in panic, but we did not let them jump. We took them down safely using a ladder.” After coming out safely, a person staying in the hotel said, “I and some of my colleagues were staying on the third and fourth floors of the hotel and hearing the noise during the fire, we quickly went downstairs. Get down and go out. At that time the whole hotel was filled with smoke.
