The Uttar Pradesh Police convoy carrying mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed to Prayagraj halted briefly in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district on Monday morning before entering Jhansi district. As the convoy stopped at Kharai in Shivpuri district, Ahmed, wearing a white turban, got down from the police van to defecate when reporters asked him if he was “fearful”, to which he replied “fear of what.”

Soon after, the policemen took him away from the reporters. Significantly, after coming out of Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad on Sunday evening, Ahmed had expressed apprehension that he might be killed. “Murder, murder,” Ahmed told reporters outside the jail as he was being taken to a police vehicle by security personnel.

Local police officer Manish Kumar Jadaun said, “The convoy stopped at Kharai in Shivpuri district around 7 am so that Ahmed could defecate.” Entered Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh at nine o’clock. The Uttar Pradesh Police is taking the mafia Atiq Ahmed from Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat to Prayagraj regarding a court case.

Ahmed is a former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and has been lodged in Sabarmati Jail since June 2019. He was transferred there by the Supreme Court on charges of abducting and assaulting real estate baron Mohit Jaiswal while he was in jail in Uttar Pradesh. Police said his name is in over 100 criminal cases, including the recent Umesh Pal murder case.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subrata Pathak had said that he would not be surprised if Atiq Ahmed’s car overturns like Mafia Vikas Dubey.

Significantly, Dubey was shot in July 2020 by the Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh Police. Dubey was being brought from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh to Kanpur when the SUV carrying him overturned under mysterious circumstances on a highway. Police claim that he tried to escape.
