The government told the Rajya Sabha on Monday that 9,524 commercial pilots are registered with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and more than 1,450 pilots were trained in various training institutes in the country during the last three years.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh gave this information to Rajya Sabha in a written reply. He said that there are a total of 35 FTOs approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in the country which are functioning from 53 locations.

Singh informed that these Pilot Training Institutes (FTOs) trained 335 pilots in 2020. Apart from this, 505 pilots in 2021 and 616 pilots in 2022 were trained from these institutes.

Responding to another question, he said the government has given in-principle approval for setting up 21 new airports across the country.
