Ericsson to focus on smaller acquisitions

Ericsson’s chief executive officer (CEO) says the company is exploring the possibility of more acquisitions, although it will focus more on smaller deals. The company may continue to focus on selling its business to communication service providers (CSP) or telecom operators.

Company CEO Borj Ikhom told the agency on Monday on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona that we will need to grow our enterprise offerings, so the focus will be on smaller acquisitions.

Margins have weakened for Ericsson, which last week announced 8,500 job cuts, as growth now comes mainly from more cost-competitive markets like India and its China market weakens. Ikhom believes that demand will improve going forward, as network traffic growth continues to pick up. “The reality is you need to keep pace with the changing times,” he says. More than 90 per cent of the company’s sales come from CSP.
