The representation of women in the management of funds is very less, while in the year 2023, there has been an overall increase in their number. At the end of January 2023, there were 42 women fund managers in the mutual fund industry, which is just 9.8 per cent of the total mutual fund managers of 428.

At the end of January, women’s share in assets under management was just 11 per cent, or Rs 4.4 lakh crore. This information was received from the report of Morningstar.

The report said, though the total number of women fund managers is increasing, their share in AUM is steadily declining. It said, there has been a steady decline in the percentage of assets managed by women over the years. Last year, women managed 11.98 per cent of total mutual fund assets.

Talking about the amount of assets under management, the trend has changed in the year 2022. Total assets managed by women in January 2023 were less than in January 2022. The decline can be attributed to two well-known names who exited the mutual fund management industry last year – Swati Kulkarni (UTI Mutual Fund) and Lakshmi Iyer (Kotak MF), the report said. Both of them managed sizeable funds.
