NTPC signs agreement with Indian Army, will set up green energy plant

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a unit of state-owned power producer NTPC Limited, has entered into an agreement with the Indian Army to set up green hydrogen projects at armed forces establishments.

NTPC said in a statement on Tuesday that green hydrogen projects will be set up in a phased manner to supply electricity under the agreement with the army. The sites for setting up these projects will also be identified jointly.

According to the statement, “NTPC REL has entered into an agreement with the Indian Army for setting up green hydrogen projects on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis in military establishments. It aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and complex logistics and move rapidly towards reducing carbon emissions.

NTPC REL, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC, currently has a portfolio of 3.6 GW of renewable energy capacity.
