Indian NGO received foreign funding of around Rs 2,400 crore in three years: Govt

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said on Wednesday that Indian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have received a total of Rs 2,430.84 crore in foreign funds in the last three years. He gave this information to the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question.

Rai said Rs 905.50 crore to Indian NGO in 2021-22; Foreign funds of Rs 798.18 crore were received in 2020-21 and Rs 727.16 crore in 2019-20. He said that 16,383 NGOs have valid FCRA registration certificate as on March 10, 2023, out of which 14,966 organizations have submitted the mandatory annual return for the financial year 2021-22 under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).

Rai said that some complaints had been received in the past regarding misappropriation of foreign funds by FCRA registered organizations and such complaints are dealt with as per the provisions of the Act and the rules made thereunder.
