FCRA licenses of 1,827 NGOs canceled in five years: Govt

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai on Wednesday said the government has canceled Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of 1,827 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for violating the law in the last five years.

Rai told a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that section 32 of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 provides for amendment by the central government of any order passed in proceedings against any institution registered under the Act.

He said that FCRA registration certificates of 1,827 organizations have been canceled during 2018 to 2022 due to violation of the provisions of the Act and Rules. He said that as of March 10, 2023, there were 16,383 FCRA-registered organisations.
