Health: Consumption of tobacco and smoking cigarettes can increase the risk of Kovid-19

A research group led by Kazuhisa Asai, associate professor at Osaka Metropolitan University in Japan, conducted a study to examine the relationship between electric cigarettes, tobacco products, traditional cigarettes and COVID-19. The group conducted an online survey on 30,130 participants aged 16-81 randomly selected from the general population in February 2022, which revealed a shocking result. The result of this survey suggests that people who consume tobacco or cigarettes have more evidence of getting infected with Kovid.

Consumption of electric cigarette and tobacco increases the risk of Kovid

The study, published in Scientific Reports, found that users of tobacco products had significantly higher rates of COVID-19 than non-users. Additionally, among all types of tobacco users, those who used both tobacco products and traditional cigarettes had higher odds of serious disease. Such people required hospitalization and oxygen due to Covid-19.

Electric cigarette was considered a safe option

Significantly, electric cigarette products are marketed as a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, but the study highlights additional risks due to coronavirus infection. Associate Professor Asai hopes the report will encourage people to think about tobacco use in the context of COVID-19.
