China’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Chin Gang will attend the G-20 Finance Ministers’ meeting to be held in New Delhi on March 2. China’s Foreign Ministry gave this information on Tuesday.

The confirmation of Gang’s maiden visit to India comes amid reports that Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi will skip the summit as he has to attend the Japanese Parliament.

Officials told BLiTZ that the government is working on ensuring a joint statement after the G-20 foreign ministers’ meeting.

Growing differences between Russia, China and the West over the war in Ukraine have escalated the fracas and diplomatic warfare, and previous such meetings have failed to produce a joint statement.

The same happened in the recent meeting of Finance Ministers and Governors of Central Banks in Bengaluru. Russia accused the United West of adopting a confrontational approach to Ukraine. At the same time, a presidential summary came out at the end of India’s chairmanship of G-20.

In such a situation, all eyes are on Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who will participate in the program to be held later this week.
