Ravi, an Indian-origin lawyer in Singapore, has been suspended for five years for making baseless and serious allegations against the Attorney-General, Prosecutors and the Law Society. In his Facebook posts, Ravi threatened legal action against fellow lawyers and the Law Society after the Court of Appeal overturned his client’s death sentence in 2020. After this, suspension was handed over to Ravi.

guilty on three out of four counts

Let us tell you that Ravi was found guilty of three out of four misconduct (misbehavior) charges and was ordered to pay a fine of 6,000 Singapore dollars. Along with this, the Law Society insisted on strict restrictions on Ravi. The three-judge court said Ravi’s misconduct showed a fundamental lack of respect and blatant disregard for the integrity of Singapore’s important legal institutions. The disciplinary action against Ravi comes after he took action for Gobi Avedian, a Malaysian national caught with 40.22 grams of heroin in 2014.

alleged in an interview Right after the Court of Appeal’s decision, Ravi alleged in an interview with a socio-political website that the Attorney-General was “overzealous” in the case. Not only this, Ravi had shared the letter of the Deputy Attorney-General on Facebook in which the Attorney-General and the Law Society demanded an apology from him. He said he would initiate legal proceedings against the law society if it failed to “play its role to protect lawyers and freedom of profession”.
