March 9 – BLiTZ. Russia is ready to support the initiative of the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, to create a security zone around the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in Energodar, Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Vienna, said on Thursday, March 9.

He stressed that the basic concepts of security have finally been formulated absolutely clearly: it is the inadmissibility of attacking the Zaporizhzhya NPP and conducting hostilities from the territory of the plant, a ban on the deployment of heavy weapons and compliance with safety regulations to prevent a nuclear incident. However, Ulyanov noted, Russia’s desire alone is not enough: Kiev is required to guarantee that it will not shell the station’s territory, but Ukraine has so far avoided discussing this point.

Also, according to Ulyanov, the IAEA, for some reason, continues to ignore Russia’s information about the real situation at the station and that it is constantly under fire. Hushing up the problem creates the prerequisites for a nuclear catastrophe that will affect most of the European continent, the permanent representative stated.
