In Israel, a new edition in Hebrew of the story-fairy tale of the French author Antoine de Saint-Exupery “The Little Prince” has been published. In the updated version, for gender representation, the main character was made a girl, and the book itself was called “Little Princess”. On Sunday, March 5, the agency reported TASS.

The oldest Israeli publishing house, Steimacki, explained its decision by the fact that in most works for children, the protagonists are exclusively boys. In this regard, the company decided to release a series of books where the main characters-boys were replaced with girls.

“We at Steimatsky believe that language and words have the power to change reality, and we encourage all girls, wherever they are, to become the heroine of their stories,” the publisher emphasized.

Also, the company called on writers and writers to create more literature with female protagonists.

“Only the gender has been changed to feminine, everything else is the same,” said an employee of the Steimacki store about the content of the new book.

According to TASS, the novelty gained a stir among buyers, on the first day of sales in the publisher’s stores in the center of Tel Aviv, all copies of The Little Princess were sold out.

At the same time, the total circulation of the new version of the classic Saint-Exupery, first published in 1943, is not known.

Earlier, on February 25, British writer Imogen West-Knights criticized the copyright holders of the legacy of author Roald Dahl for plans to release a new edition of his book with “tolerant” edits. In her opinion, this can distort the original meaning of the works.

On February 7, The Guardian newspaper reported on the Church of England’s intention to explore the possibility of using gender-neutral terms to refer to God. The material notes that the church has been exploring the use of gendered language in relation to God over the past few years.
