Shura Council Speaker stresses Qatar’s role in supporting the least developed countries

His Excellency Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim stressed the importance of the role played by the State of Qatar in supporting the least developed countries, stressing that Qatar is an active strategic partner in the international community, as it was keen to host important United Nations conferences that concern support poor countries.

In his speech at the opening session of the Parliamentary Forum on the Least Developed Countries, held on the sidelines of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which kicks off in Doha tomorrow (Sunday), His Excellency explained that this support comes from the affirmation of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, “may God protect and protect him”, in all economic forums, on the necessity of not leaving poor countries to face the issue of extreme poverty on their own.

HE the Speaker of the Shura Council pointed out that the State of Qatar signed an agreement with the United Nations in October of last year to host the conference, as part of a series of efforts made by Qatar in supporting development issues of developing countries and least developed countries.

In his speech, His Excellency referred to the adoption of the Doha Action Program for the Least Developed Countries for the period 2022-2031, under the title (challenges and opportunities related to human rights), during the first part of the conference that Qatar held at the United Nations headquarters in New York in March of last year.

His Excellency noted that this would help these countries to face the challenges resulting from the “Covid-19” pandemic, as well as economic crises and climate change.

In his speech, HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim noted Qatar’s keenness to support various countries and humanitarian and development organizations, adding that “Qatar is one of the largest donors and supporters of the least developed countries, as it has exceeded the value of the humanitarian and development assistance provided by the state In the past year, the Qatar Fund for Development provided $700 million, as this assistance contributed to the implementation of projects and programs for a number of United Nations organizations to support the least developed countries.

Before the forum, His Excellency reviewed the efforts of the State of Qatar and its contributions in supporting brotherly and friendly countries, providing health care, education and relief projects, supporting development efforts and climate change projects, in addition to its great efforts in supporting countries to mitigate the effects of the “Covid-19” epidemic, as its aid exceeded Through the Qatar Fund for Development of $ 140 million.
