Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on March 2 that it is difficult to expect a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on the sidelines of the G20 ministerial meeting in India, as the United States advocates the escalation of conflicts in the world and relegated diplomacy to the background.

“Well, were there any doubts about this (the absence of a meeting between Lavrov and Blinken. – Ed.)? In my opinion, the position of the United States has been clearly and for a long time. They advocate the escalation of conflicts in principle around the world, diplomacy, unfortunately, they, apparently, relegated to the background. Now there are questions – why? Because they don’t own it or don’t believe in it, or simply because destruction is the logic of US foreign policy in general,” she told reporters.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived at a meeting of the G20 foreign ministers in Delhi. The event began with a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

On February 28, Lavrov arrived on a working visit to India. He will meet in New Delhi with Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar. It is planned that Lavrov will participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and a series of bilateral negotiations with partners from China, Brazil and other states.

It is expected that Moscow, at the G20 ministerial meeting organized under the chairmanship of India, will draw the attention of partners to the problems of energy and food security, as well as to the destructiveness of illegitimate sanctions.
