A former member of the House of Delegates from the US state of West Virginia, convicted of invading the Capitol in January 2021, Derrick Evans called for sending to Ukraine those US citizens who voted for financial support for Kiev. Evans wrote about this on his Twitter on Wednesday, March 1.
In his opinion, relatives of those who voted for financial support for Ukraine should also be sent to the war zone.
Earlier, on February 28, Deputy Pentagon Chief Colin Kahl said that the conflict in Ukraine could drag on for another three years. He also added that the Pentagon does not know how much more military assistance from the West Kyiv will need, as it is unclear how the conflict will develop.
The day before, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that some representatives of the US Democratic and Republican parties doubt that Washington should provide assistance to Kyiv. She noted that, nevertheless, the majority of American legislators still agree that Ukraine’s support is needed.
Prior to this, on February 26, New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin expressed the opinion that US President Joe Biden does not understand the real situation in Ukraine and therefore his promises to provide military support to the Kiev authorities do not make sense. The journalist stressed that even taking into account the persistence of Ukraine, the opinion about geopolitical benefits for the West is premature at the moment.
On February 25, The Hill newspaper wrote that the total US spending on military assistance to Ukraine, including Javelin anti-tank missile systems and M1 Abrams tanks, exceeded $77 billion. Of these, $29.3 billion is direct military assistance from Washington, another $45 billion was allocated as additional funds to support the Ukrainian economy. More than $13 billion were transferred to Ukraine through the mechanisms of the World Bank.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian authorities announced in February 2022 amid the aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling.
