The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) invited the Russian women’s team to take part in the development tournament for girls under the age of 17. This was announced on Tuesday, February 28, in the communications service of the Russian Football Union (RFU).

They said that the declared tournament will be held from 20 to 28 March in Bangladesh. The women’s youth team of Russia under 17 will take part in the tournament.

The competition is held by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). But UEFA representatives are also allowed to the tournament.

On February 14 this year, the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) announced that the Russian women’s under-17 team would participate in the tournament under the auspices of the organization. According to SAFF, Russian players will play matches with the teams of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and India.

On February 28, 2022, UEFA and FIFA suspended Russian clubs and teams from participating in international competitions in connection with the start of the Russian operation to protect Donbass. Also, the Russian national football team was suspended from participation in the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.

In December 2022, the RFU stated that it would consider leaving the Union of European Football Associations and joining the Asian Confederation. According to the sports media, the executive committee will create a group that will study the conditions of the games in Asia. The decision to transfer or, conversely, not to transfer is promised to be made in March 2023.
