Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in India on Tuesday, February 28. The working visit will last three days.

In New Delhi, the Foreign Minister will meet with his counterpart from India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. It is planned that Lavrov will participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and a series of bilateral negotiations with partners from China, Brazil and other states.

It is expected that Moscow, at the G20 ministerial meeting organized under the chairmanship of India, will draw the attention of partners to the problems of energy and food security, as well as the destructiveness of illegitimate sanctions.

Despite the tight schedule, from March 2 to 4, Lavrov will take part in the international political science conference “Raisin’s Dialogue”, which will also be held in New Delhi.

The day before, during negotiations with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Lavrov said that Russia and Azerbaijan are developing several joint projects, both bilateral and international.

Earlier, on February 9, Sergei Lavrov arrived on a visit to Sudan. It coincided with a trip to the country by EU and US ambassadors and came as a surprise to Western countries. The timely appearance of the Russian diplomat signaled increased competition between the Kremlin and its opponents in Africa.

But in the same week, the head of Russian diplomacy visited Mali and Mauritania. Prior to that, the minister paid a two-day visit to Iraq.

In July 2022, Lavrov noted that Russia’s relations with African countries are based on time-tested “bonds of friendship and cooperation.” He stated that the development of a comprehensive partnership with African countries remains among the important priorities of Russia’s foreign policy.
