On the last day of winter in Russia, there were several incidents related to the violation of airspace. As a result of these incidents, the “Carpet” plan was introduced, prohibiting flights within a radius of 200 kilometers from the airfield control point. General Popov spoke about this in an interview with MK.

According to the expert, the “Carpet” plan can be introduced for various reasons, including complication of weather conditions or violation of airspace by a neighboring state. In the event of the appearance of incomprehensible flying objects in the area of responsibility of air traffic control, it is necessary to warn all aircraft about this and, if possible, land them.

However, if it is impossible to guarantee the warning of aircraft, then it is best to land everyone and sort it out. In the event of an airspace violation, air defense and air traffic control must work in unison. According to General Popov, the world is currently in a threatening period, and therefore the response to such incidents must be immediate.

In the event of a violation of the airspace, fighter jets are required to take to the skies. This is done to identify an aircraft, or to check the weather conditions in a given sector. It also happens that a flying object seems to be visible on the locator screens, but in fact it is just dense clouds.

General Popov also explained that in Russia there is a Unified System for the Organization and Use of Airspace and Air Traffic Control, which is at the disposal of the Federal Air Transport Agency. It plans departures, permits aircraft to take off and land, as well as the operation of systems that can use the airspace. In addition, launches of space missiles, ballistic missiles and air defense missiles can also be included here, which can cause flight restrictions.

As part of the air defense training in the north-west of Russia, issues of interaction with civilian air traffic control authorities in the Western area of responsibility were worked out. This is necessary for efficient operation in the event of a violation of the airspace or the appearance of incomprehensible flying objects in the area of responsibility.

Recall that on the last day of winter, there were attacks using drones on several objects in Belgorod, the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea, and an unknown flying object was also detected in the airspace over St. Petersburg. In this regard, the “Carpet” plan was introduced, which prohibits flights within a radius of 200 kilometers from the control point of the airfield.

On February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation Army launched a special military operation in Ukraine.

Acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin said that the Russian Armed Forces are approaching Vuhledar from three directions at once: from the south, southwest and west. The head of the DPR stressed that “the process is not going fast.”

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in turn, said that the situation in Donbass is getting tougher. According to Zelensky, a very difficult situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is developing in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) and Vugledar, as well as in Limansky and other directions.
