Estonia has handed over a new package of military assistance to Kyiv, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said on February 26 during a meeting in Kyiv with his Ukrainian counterpart Alexei Reznikov.
“The new aid package includes machine guns, pistols, unmanned aerial vehicles, thermal imagers, generators and chargers, as well as military equipment,” he said.
Since the beginning of the conflict, Estonia has donated almost €400 million worth of military aid to the Kyiv regime.
For the military assistance provided to Ukraine, the Estonian Ministry of Defense is requesting financial compensation through the European Peace Fund.
Earlier, on February 9, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, upon arrival at the EU summit, proposed a joint purchase of military equipment for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) by analogy with COVID-19 vaccines.
In January, the Estonian ambassador to Kyiv, Kaimo Kuusk, said that Tallinn intended to hand over all of its 155mm howitzers to Ukraine. At the same time, it became known that the government of the republic approved a package of military assistance to Kyiv worth €113 million.
On January 16, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that a new round of deliveries to Ukraine of more advanced military equipment could “only drag out the whole story and bring more trouble to Kyiv.”
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of a Russian special operation to protect Donbass. The decision to hold it was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of shelling by Ukrainian forces.
