Israel may have to fight alone against Tehran regime

Tehran regime

Apparently, it is assuring to note that there has of late been an unprecedented level of military cooperation between Israel and the United States to dismantle the radical Iranian regime. This cooperation had long been needed to foster peace and development in the entire region. History bears out that with the fall of the relatively modern Shah government in 1979, the scenario in Iran has turned far worse. Since the radical Shiite regime took over the country that year, its successive dispensations have sought to export their version of rule to the Middle East and the whole world. This has posed an existential threat to all modern states that claim to believe in pluralism and democracy in the contemporary world.

Given this background, Israel and the United States seem to have done really well to target the Islamic Republic’s political and military leadership, its aggressive nuclear programme, and its missile arsenal. According to a report, US and Israeli forces have so far hit more than 15,000 targets in Iran. The Pentagon has dispatched the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and around 2,500 Marines to the region.

One thinks the resultant scenario produced by the US-Israel joint mission can be used by the domestic forces that have long remained suppressed in Iran. They could easily use the weakened security mechanism of the country’s clerical regime to overthrow it and pave the way of democracy and development in the region.

One, however, does not think such Israel-US cooperation alone would suffice to address the threat radical Iran poses to the world today. Recently, Tehran has closed its Strait of Hormuz to the USA and Israel. Iran’s new supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has vowed to keep this strait closed. This closure obviously disrupts global energy markets. It hurts the commons very hard the world over. One would suggest the United Kingdom and the other nations affected by this development could send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to help secure the key shipping route out of the Middle East.

Besides, one would suggest Israel may better remain prepared to fight the current Iran war alone. Presently, Israel cannot stand against Iran alone. It must start preparing to acquire this capability. One of the fundamental policies of the radical regime in Iran has been to annihilate the Jewish State of Israel. Jerusalem must constantly bear in mind that it must sustain its remarkable intelligence and battlefield preparedness against radical Iran. It needs to complete its mission as early as possible. Time is running out for Jerusalem. Tehran has already enriched its uranium to near-weapons-grade levels.

Also, one would suggest, Israel would better not take the current military support of the USA to it for grantee. Reports are that domestic American opinion on the current war against Iran is being increasingly divided. Israel’s detractors in the United States allege that it is not in the interest of the USA to have a joint operation with Israel against Iran. Given the way cheap populism today pays rich dividends in the prevalent politics in most of the so-called democratic nations in the contemporary world, the ruling elites in Washington might find it politically rewarding not to be seen militarily aligned with Israel.
