It is amusing that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has of late insinuated the Muslims in India are suffering. He has said in a social media post no Muslim should be “oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in.. India (or any other place).”
Knowledgeable sources say the Iranian leader’s apparent concern over Indian Muslims is fake. His insinuations against India can be attributed to radical Iran’s imperialistic designs to win over Muslims the world. India hosts the world’s second largest Muslim population today. The radical Iranian regime seems to calculate that accusing India of maltreating its Muslims would get it a greater support of this community. Fortunately, the Muslims in India are well aware as to how free they have been in the country. They know radical Iran has been hostile to the entire humanity.
It is well documented that Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini, founder of current Iran, was anti-humanity in his world outlook. He cared a fig for Muslims in general.
In the early 1960s, he attacked the Shah’s policy of giving women the right to vote .The 1979 revolution he led proved catastrophic for Iran. After he took over as the Supreme Leader, he re-imposed the veil on women. He scrapped the Shah era’s Family Protection Law (1967). The Islamist regime that came to replace the Shah dynasty used orthodox Shi‘ism to repress women and female sexuality in Iran. It pushed religious judgments on the status of women through into law.
The order Khomeini imposed upon Iran in the early years of its Islamic revolution continues in the country. Apparently, current Supreme Leader Khamenei describes Islam as “a religion that promotes mercy and compassion, supports humanity and human values, and promotes brotherhood.” He talks of human rights for all. He says, “Even criminals have their own rights. ..death-row criminals have to be treated fairly, let alone prisoners, outlaws, and suspects.”
Khamenei says women cannot be forced to accept men’s decision. They have a choice in accepting a government and its political and social system. But in practice, he has had scant respect for any human rights.
The Iranian authorities used its Islamist laws to brutally crack down on the “woman, life, freedom” protests after the September 2022 death in morality police custody of Iranian-Kurdish Mahsa Jina Amini. Today Iran executes more people per capita than any other country in the world.
In the post –Shahlandscape, the Iranian regime has advanced the cause of revolutionary Shiite Islamism alone. It accords limited freedoms to the Muslims of denominations other than Shia in the country. It discriminates against Sunnis in the areas of education, employment, and religion. The state imposes various restrictions on their religious schools and universities. It prevents them from holding separate Eid prayers. It destroys their mosques. It subjects atheists to arbitrary detention, torture, and the death penalty.
Iranian regime’s treatment of Azeris, Kurds, Balouch, Ahwazi Arabs, Lurs, the Jews, the Baha’is and Zoroastrians is heinous. It has thrown to the winds the women and minority rights standards, enshrined in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious or Linguistic Minorities; the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on the Protection of National Minorities; the Oslo Recommendations Regarding the Linguistic Rights of National Minorities; The Hague Recommendations regarding the Education Rights of National Minorities; and the Lund Recommendations on the Effective Participation of National Minorities in Public Life.
The sources say all sections of the enlightened humanity in the world today are morally obliged to reach out to the Iranians and help them establish a just, humane order in the county. Today, the Iranian society– once known for its richness in its historical and cultural inheritance– is reduced to its tyrannical dominance by a monotheistic dictatorship.
