In response to Nipun’s writ petition filed by her lawyer, Advocate Polash Chandra Roy, on May 15, the High Court has suspended the declaration of Monowar Hossain Dipjol as the General Secretary winner for the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association’s 2024-26 term on May 20. Reacting to this decision, prominent Bangladeshi actor and producer Monowar Hossain Dipjol told local media, “There is some big power behind Nipun”.

Commenting further on the High Court’s order, Dipjol said, “One thing I understand is that there is definitely a great power behind it. Since Nipun is able to do this, it must be understood that her influence is quite extensive. I don’t want to say anything more about this”.

On May 19, Nipun Akter’s lawyer, Barrister Shah Manjurul Haque, informed the court that illegal money had influenced the election of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association.

When asked for his opinion, Gobinda Chandra Pramanik, a senior advocate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, stated, “Monowar Hossain Dipjol’s remarks directly undermine the independence of the country’s judicial system and damage the image of the apex court, which is tantamount to contempt of court. The apex court may take cognizance of this matter and bring contempt charges against Monowar Hossain Dipjol”.

Advocate Pramanik further emphasized that it is the responsibility of every law-abiding citizen in Bangladesh to show the utmost respect for the country’s highest judiciary and refrain from any remarks that challenge the courts’ integrity. He added that Dipjol’s comments were not only unfortunate but also highly audacious, as they attempt to undermine the dignity of the country’s apex court. To uphold the dignity and image of the courts, such acts should not go unattended.

Meanwhile, a faction of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association held a rally within the premises of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), displaying a large banner with derogatory images of actor Nipun. These images were later shared on social media by several anti-Nipun individuals.

Advocate Pramanik commented on this incident, stating, “Such acts are illegal and punishable offenses under the Digital Security Act (DSA) and the Women and Children Repression Act (WCRA). The aggrieved person can file cases with the courts under the relevant sections of the DSA and WCRA”.

It is also worth noting that the premises of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation is a “Key Point Installation,” where holding such rallies is entirely illegal.
