BRICS nations gearing up for South Africa Summit

Last week, representatives from the BRICS countries convened to prepare for their upcoming meeting scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa. During the meeting, they engaged in fruitful discussions on pressing challenges concerning strategic areas such as food and water security, energy security, counter-terrorism, and cyber security, reaching a broad consensus on several critical issues.

One of the main points of agreement among the BRICS nations was the importance of upholding the spirit of multilateralism. They pledged to work towards building a more multipolar and decentralized world, rejecting unilateral condemnations, and jointly combatting various forms of violence, including terrorism, extremism, and transnational crime.

In addition, the representatives committed to tackling global challenges head-on, including climate change, cyber security, and food security. They emphasized the need for reforming the global governance system to enhance the representation and voice of developing countries and to promote the democratization of international relations.

The parties further agreed to strengthen dialogue, consultation, solidarity, and cooperation among themselves, with a shared determination to support South Africa in hosting the BRICS Summit and fostering greater collaboration between member countries.

As a demonstration of the group’s commitment to inclusivity, the BRICS nations extended an invitation to the President of Bolivia, Luis Arce, to present the achievements of Bolivia’s economic model during the summit on August 24th in South Africa. Bolivia, expressing keen interest in joining the BRICS group, held meetings and démarches with India, South Africa, Brazil, Russia, and China. On June 12th, President Arce officially communicated Bolivia’s willingness to become a member of the BRICS nations.

With the preparation meeting concluded, the BRICS countries are gearing up

to convene in South Africa for their summit, poised to address critical global challenges and foster greater cooperation among the member nations.
