Modi surname case: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi reached Jharkhand High Court against the order of the lower court

Former National President of Congress Rahul Gandhi has challenged the order of MP-MLA court of Ranchi by filing a quashing petition in Jharkhand High Court. He has demanded exemption from physical presence in the lower court in the case related to defamation regarding Modi surname. The trial court had dismissed his plea on May 3. On behalf of the applicant Rahul Gandhi, advocate Dipankar told that the petition filed under Section-205 of CrPC was rejected by the lower court.

He requested for exemption from presence in the lower court and said that he should be exempted from presence during the proceedings in this case. It has been requested to be allowed to appear through advocate. The MP-MLA court has ordered Rahul Gandhi to appear personally in the matter. It is worth mentioning that being hurt by the objectionable remarks made by Rahul Gandhi on Modi surname, complainant Pradeep Modi has filed a defamation case in Ranchi Civil Court.
