The problem of permit renewal has arisen in front of the owners of commercial vehicles across Bihar. More than 150 permits are stuck for renewal in Patna Regional Transport Authority (RTA). Vehicle owners have also paid more than 11 lakhs for renewal. But now the responsibility of permit renewal has been given to all DTO offices by the Transport Department, while the DTOs have started this work till now. In such a situation, both the money of the vehicle owners and the application for renewal of the permit are stuck.

Renewal work assigned to DTO

In fact, last month the Transport Department had handed over the work of permit renewal to the DTO. According to the rules, in case of non-renewal of permit, vehicles cannot be operated on the roads. Therefore, there is also apprehension that due to the orders of the department and the inability of the DTO, thousands of commercial vehicles may be parked instead of plying on the roads.

Permit for six thousand vehicles per year in the district

Permits are given to more than six thousand commercial vehicles every year in Patna district alone. National permit is for one year and state permit is for five years. The current fee for renewal of permit is Rs.8600. It also depends on the category of permit of the vehicles. In the last 12 months, the transport department has earned an income of Rs 19 crore 97 lakh 54 thousand 342 only from Patna regional RTA. However, Patna RTA was given a target of 21 crores. The number of commercial vehicles is in lakhs. In Patna RTA, the work of permit renewal of commercial vehicles of Patna, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Buxar, Nalanda and Kaimur districts has been done, which will now be done by the DTOs of different districts.

The decision of the department increased the problems of the owners of commercial vehicles across the state.

In fact, there are offices of Regional Transport Authority in all the nine divisional headquarters. Till now the work of permit renewal was done in these offices only. But now this work has been given to the DTOs of all 38 districts, but the DTOs already have a lot of work pressure. Patna DTO office is already short of staff. Now he has also been given the work of permit renewal. Permit renewal is proving to be a problem for DTO employees.

If the fine is not paid within 90 days of the challan in Bihar, then the vehicle will be blacklisted

What do vehicle owners say?
