Ranchi: From time to time, such cases come to the fore, due to which questions are raised on the credibility of the police. Arresting an innocent person without solid evidence and keeping him in jail for 19 months, instead of providing justice to the rape victim, defending the accused policeman and handing over the charge of an important police station to a tainted police officer are its hallmarks.
The one who was accused of murder, was released after five days of questioning
Innocent Suraj Soni remained in jail for 19 months on the charge of murder due to the negligence of Nagdi police. On Thursday, the court of Additional Justice Dinesh Kumar Soni released him due to lack of evidence. He was arrested by the police on 12 September 2021 and sent to jail for the murder of Vimal Mahato alias Tutu Mahato. Advocates Rahul Pandey and Rakesh Tiwari represented in the case. Barju Mahto, brother of Vimal Mahto alias Tutu Mahto, lodged an FIR against Kallu alias Suraj Soni and Prince Soni (both residents of Gumla). Even after that, the police arrested Suraj Soni, a resident of Nagdi. It was told that in this case Kallu alias Suraj Soni was brought by the Nagdi Police and kept in custody for five days, but later released him.
Chargesheeted constable was made station in-charge
The CID had filed a charge sheet against Mukesh Kumar, the then police station in-charge of Barkagaon, in the case of gangster Aman Sao alias Aman Sahu being driven away from the guest room of the police station while in judicial custody. On Thursday, an order has been issued to make him in-charge of Gorhar police station of Hazaribagh. He is also the secretary of Hazaribagh branch of Jharkhand Police Association.
Aman Sau was evicted from the guest room of Barkagaon police station on the night of 27 September 2019. In this case, the then DIG AV Homkar had sacked Mukesh Kumar. Later, the then in-charge DGP MV Rao restored the service of Mukesh Kumar. After this he was transferred to Gumla. But being the secretary of the Police Association, he was transferred back to Hazaribagh district.
The constable is threatening the rape victim to withdraw the case
The rape victim is being threatened that if she does not withdraw the case, she will be killed. The victim alleges that Shashank Kumar, posted as sub-inspector in Lalpur police station, is threatening her. The victim is also alleging that the Lalpur police is not doing the investigation of the case registered on her behalf properly.
The victim has made a written complaint to the CID DG about the entire matter. There is a possibility that soon CID can start investigation in this matter. The victim has given written information to CID DG Anurag Gupta that her conversation with Sub-Inspector Shashank Kumar, posted at Lalpur police station, started regarding the case related to the loss of mobile phone.
After this the sub-inspector always started calling him. Then he sexually assaulted her several times on the promise of marriage. When the girl became pregnant, Shashank Kumar married her in the temple of Lalpur police station itself. Later, he made an excuse and left the hostel without keeping the girl with him. After this he married another girl. Then the girl lodged a case against Shashank Kumar on December 8, 2022 at Lalpur police station on charges of rape. Now the girl is being threatened by the accused to take up the case.
The girl has also told in the written complaint that a petition for bail was filed in the court on behalf of the sub-inspector. Then the diary was demanded from the police in the case. On seeing the dedicated diary in the court, the girl came to know that the investigation of the case was done wrongly and illegally. Efforts are being made to save the accused by ignoring important evidence in the case.
