The industrial production index in the country increased by 4.8% last March, on an annual basis, compared to the same month of 2022, when it reached 103.5 points, while it increased by 4.9% compared to the previous month (February 2023).
The index, which is issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority, reflects the details of the growth of the various industrial economic sectors that make up it, namely: mining with a relative importance of 82.46%, the manufacturing industry with a relative importance of 15.85%, electricity with a relative importance of 1.16%, and water with a relative importance of 0.53%.
Today, the data of the Planning and Statistics Authority showed an increase in the index of the mining sector by 5% compared to the previous month (February 2023). %, and compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (March 2022), an increase in this sector is observed by 6%.
The data indicated that the manufacturing sector recorded an increase of 3.8% in March 2023 compared to the previous month (February 2023). Chemical industry by 6%, the manufacture of refined petroleum products by 3.7%, and the manufacture of cement and other non-metallic mineral products by 0.9%. As for the decline, it occurred in the manufacture of base metals (base metals) by 2.5%, the group of printing and reproduction of recorded media by 1.9%, and the manufacture of rubber and plastic products by 1.1%.
On the other hand, and in the same sector, and in terms of annual change, the industrial sector index decreased by 1% compared to the corresponding month (March 2022), as a result of the decrease in production in the cement industry and other non-metallic mineral products by 11.3%, and the printing and reproduction of recorded media by 11.3%. 9.1%, the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 2.6%, and the manufacture of rubber and plastic products by 1.4%. While the increase in production was in the food products industry by 12.8%, the refined petroleum products industry by 6.9%, the beverage industry by 6.2%, and the basic metals industry by 2.4%.
In the same context, the electricity, gas and steam supply sector recorded an increase in production between March 2023 and the previous month (February 2023) by 13.2%, and when compared with the corresponding month of the previous year (March 2022), the increase was 8.5%.
In terms of water supplies: When comparing March 2023 with the previous month (February 2023), an increase in production was observed by 12.8%, and when compared with the corresponding month of the previous year (March 2022), the increase was 0.9%.
