Surat: 94 percent completion of expansion work of terminal building at airport

It is likely that the work of increasing the facilities at Surat airport will start in the next few days. The development works of Surat airport have picked up pace, including terminal building, parallel taxi track and canopy, among others. 94 percent of the expansion work of terminal building at Surat airport has been completed.

Rs 353.25 crore will be spent on development works

The Airport Authority of India has given detailed information about the development works being done at the airport. In which it has been said that the work of other development works including terminal building, apron and parallel taxi track has been started at a cost of Rs 353.25 crore.

The terminal construction work at a cost of Rs 138.48 crore is in the final stage and 94 percent has been completed. The work of apron widening and parallel taxi track will be done at a cost of Rs 63.13 crore, out of which 72 percent work has been completed. The work of canopy in front of the terminal building at a cost of Rs 15.57 crore is also going on fast.

Passenger carrying capacity will be up to 1800 per hour

It was further informed that after the completion of the work of terminal building, the capacity to accommodate passengers will go up to 1800 per hour. Apart from this, passengers will get other facilities including 5 aerobridges and 5 casuals. It is worth noting that apart from the cities for which flights are currently flying from Surat airport, flights are being sought for some other cities as well.

More international flights likely to start

International flights by airlines are expected to start after the completion of development works including terminal building at the airport. The new building of Surat airport was being constructed for the last four years. Currently there is only one international flight from Surat airport to Sharjah.
