The state government has given extension of one year to 225 doctors working on contract in various government hospitals of Bihar. This extension has been given for the next one year from the date on which the contract period of the doctors is expiring. The health department has issued an order in this regard. This extension has been given in view of the huge shortage of doctors in the government hospitals of the state. Along with permanent doctors, 35 to 40 percent posts are vacant against the sanctioned posts of contractual doctors. Efforts are being made to fill the vacant posts. Earlier, 2857 doctors were employed against 4751 posts sanctioned for contract-based appointment.
Shortage of more than five thousand doctors
After assessing their work on the basis of the work of the doctors, in case their work is found satisfactory, they have been given extension. Sources say that this year a proposal was received to extend the contract period of about 250 doctors. After considering this, 225 doctors have been given extension of one year. 12895 posts of permanent doctors are sanctioned in the state, against which about seven thousand permanent doctors are working at present. In such a situation, it is being told that the process of mega restoration of doctors in the state can be started by the department. However, it has not been announced officially yet.

Government is making major improvements in health services
