Guwahati : The Assam government has issued a new order to the police personnel of the state. It is reported that the Himanta Biswa Sarma government has planned to take strict action against unfit and obese policemen in the Assam Police. The government has told the policemen to reduce their fat by the month of November, otherwise sit at home by taking the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). According to media reports, the police on Tuesday told that if the obese police personnel do not reduce their weight by November this year, then Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) will be offered to all such policemen.

Decision on the instructions of Himanta Biswa Sarma

Director General of Police Gyanendra Pratap Singh said that this decision has been taken on the instructions of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Regarding the decision of Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Director General of Police of Assam has tweeted that the Assam Police Headquarters has decided to professionally record the ‘Body Mass Index’ (BMI) of all Assam Police personnel including IPS and APS officers. .

Three months’ grace to reduce fat

Assam Director General of Police Gyanendra Pratap Singh said that it has been decided to give three months time till August 15 to all personnel, including IPS (Indian Police Service) and Assam Police Service (APS) officers, to register their BMI thereafter. After this, if unfit, the policemen will have to take VRS. DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh said that he will be the first policeman to register his BMI on 16 August. He told on May 8 that the Assam Police has prepared a list of about 680 personnel who are habitual drinkers or obese. He said that after a multilevel review, those unfit for duty would be offered voluntary retirement.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said on May 8 that the Assam Police has prepared a list of about 680 personnel who are habitual drinkers or obese. He said that after a multi-level review, those unfit for duty would be offered voluntary retirement. The Chief Minister had said in April that about 300 Assam Police personnel would be given retirement due to the problem of alcohol.
