World Hypertension Day 2023: Every year May 17 is celebrated as Hypertension Day. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make people aware of hypertension. Hypertension means increased blood pressure is emerging as a major threat to our health today. It is very important for a healthy body to have normal blood pressure. If your BP is more or less than normal, then there is a need to be alert, because hypertension is the main cause of cardiovascular disease.

It is true that with increasing age, its risk also increases, but nowadays, due to irregular lifestyle, stressful environment, wrong eating habits, etc., its risk has also increased in youth. The special thing is that most of the people suffering from hypertension do not get to know anything due to lack of awareness until a problem arises. This is the reason why this year the theme of World Hypertension Day – ‘Check your blood pressure properly, control it and live long’, has been kept.

History

World Hypertension Day is a group of organizations from 85 countries dealing with high blood pressure. The World Hypertension League started World Hypertension Day on 14 May in the year 2005. From 2006, World Hypertension Day was celebrated on 17 May.
