UP Legislative Council by-election: Padamsen Chaudhary and Manvendra Singh declared candidates from BJP, victory decided before results

Lucknow: On two vacant seats in the Legislative Council in Uttar Pradesh by-election For this BJP has announced the names of the candidates. The Central Election Committee of the party has declared Padamsen Chowdhary and Manvendra Singh as candidates. Voting for two seats in the Upper House will be held on May 29.

No nomination has been filed yet regarding the by-election of the Legislative Council. The last date for nomination is May 18. In such a situation, ruling party candidates Padamsen Chowdhary and Manvendra Singh can file their nominations on May 17 or 18. During this, senior leaders and ministers of the BJP organization will be involved.

Manvendra Singh has also been MLC twice along with former president of Kanpur Bundelkhand region. He was made the district president of BJP in 1980. For the first time in 1985, Manvendra Singh became an MLA on a BJP ticket. At present he is the State Vice President of BJP. Whereas Padamsen Chowdhary is a former MP and a resident of Bahraich. At present also he is the State Vice President of BJP. Both the leaders have good experience of organizational work.

The results will be declared after the voting for the by-elections on May 29. In terms of numerical equations, the victory of Padamsen Chowdhary and Manvendra Singh is believed to be certain. Talking about these vacant seats of the Legislative Council, on February 15 this year, both the seats fell vacant after the resignation of BJP MLC Laxman Prasad Acharya and the death of Banwari Lal Dohra. The tenure of Laxman Prasad Acharya was till January 30, 2027. Whereas Banwari Lal Dohra’s tenure was till July 6, 2028.

Due to the appointment of Laxman Acharya as the Governor of Sikkim, he resigned from the post of Member of the Legislative Council on 15 February. While Banwari Lal Dohra had passed away. Both these MLC seats belong to Uttar Pradesh assembly constituency.

Out of 403 MLAs in the Legislative Assembly, 255 MLAs belong to BJP. At the same time, the number of BJP coalition MLAs is 273. Votes of 202 MLAs are needed to win the Legislative Council by-election. In such a situation, the victory of BJP candidates is certain on both the seats. The BJP has 80 members in the 100-seat Legislative Council. The main opposition party has nine members from the SP and one member from the BSP. After the results of the by-elections, the BJP’s strength in the Upper House will increase further.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla, nomination papers can be filled till May 18. Scrutiny of nomination papers can be done till May 19 and withdrawal of names till May 22. Voting for the by-elections of both the seats will be held on May 29 from 9 am to 4 pm. Counting of votes will take place from 5 pm on the same day and results will be declared.
