Jharkhand: Naxalite bandh did not show effect in Giridih, police remained alert

Giridih. There was no significant effect of the Naxal bandh in Giridih district. As usual, buses and trains operated from the bus stand and railway station. The effect of the bandh was not seen even in rural areas. However, the police was fully alert about the bandh. Police personnel were deployed in Naxal-affected areas from Sunday night itself. At the same time, since Monday morning, police patrolling in Naxal-affected Pirtand, Madhuban, Parasnath, Bhelwaghati, Deori and other areas continued. It may be known that the Naxalites had declared a bandh on Monday in protest against the encounter of five Naxalites at Lavalong in Chatra, the campaign in the forests of Chhattisgarh and the communal violence taking place in different states of the country including Bihar Sharif, Gaya, Sasaram. Sanket, spokesperson of the Eastern Regional Bureau of the CPI Maoist organization, had also issued a press release in this regard. Police remained closed alert till 12 o’clock on Monday night.

No effect was seen in Deori and Bhelwaghati police station area. All the markets of Deori block remained open as usual. Vehicular movement continued on the roads. Petrol pumps, crushers etc. operated as before. However, most of the banks in the block remained closed in view of the strike by the Naxalites. This caused inconvenience to the customers. The police officers of Deori and Bhelwaghati police stations remained alert. A campaign was conducted in the border area under the leadership of Awadhesh Kumar, station in-charge of Bhelwaghati.

BOI and Bank of Baroda remained closed, SBI opened, all the shops in the commercial market of Chatro Bazaar remained open. At the same time, the Bank of India branch located in the market remained closed. Here, transactions were done with SBI like normal days. In front of the Bank of India Deori branch, a pamphlet was also placed in front of the bank, in which it was informed that the bank would be closed on Monday due to the Naxalite bandh. At the same time, bank personnel were present in the Bank of Baroda branch. But, customers were not allowed to come. The shutter of the main gate of the bank was kept closed. Bank of Baroda’s Fish and Ghoranji branch remained closed, whereas Bank of India Deori’s assistant manager Mahendra Kumar told that the bank branch was kept closed due to the Naxalite ban. Earlier, the bank was kept closed during Naxal captivity. The other bank was also closed.
