Lucknow : The truth of the riots that broke out after Eid prayers in UP’s Moradabad in 1980 will now come to the fore after 43 years. On Friday, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the cabinet approved the proposal to table the report of the Justice Saxena Commission on the Moradabad riots.
According to the report of the commission, Dr. Shamim Ahmed Khan of Moradabad was the architect of this riot. In order to implicate Valmiki Samaj, Sikh and Punjabi Samaj, on August 13, 1980, stone pelting and ruckus was created during the Eid prayer. Its purpose was to gain political advantage.
The report of the inquiry commission is confidential – Finance Minister
The surprising thing is that between 1980 and 2017, the government of any party could not muster the courage to make this report public. The Finance Minister said that the report of the inquiry commission is confidential, it cannot be made public now. The state government will now put this report in the House, after which the whole truth of the riots can be revealed.
Let us tell you that the then Chief Minister VP Singh had constituted a one-member judicial inquiry commission to investigate the riots. The report of this commission was presented in the cabinet on Friday after 40 years. After approval from the cabinet, now the report will be presented in the Legislature.
The Finance Minister said that even after the report was submitted to the government about 40 years ago, the previous governments did not allow the report to be tabled in the cabinet and the house. It is worth mentioning that since 1980, 15 Chief Ministers have been elected in the state, but no one could muster the courage to put this report on the floor of the House.
83 people were killed in the riots
On August 13, 1980, there was stone pelting and ruckus during Eid prayers in Moradabad. After this, 83 people were killed and 112 people were injured due to the outbreak of communal violence. The commission constituted to investigate the matter submitted its report to the government on 20 November 1983. According to sources, it was revealed in the investigation that Dr. Shamim Ahmed Khan of Muslim League and his supporters had carried out the incident along with their supporters to implicate the people of Valmiki Samaj, Sikh and Punjabi Samaj.
