New Delhi, May 14 (Hindustan Times). Indian Navy successfully hit ‘Bull’s Eye’ by firing BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from Guided Missile Destroyer INS Mormugao for the first time. The indigenous ship and the mighty BrahMos performing together have marked yet another shining symbol of India’s self-reliance at sea and the firepower of the Indian Navy.
Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said that the Indian Navy has successfully test-fired the anti-ship version of the BrahMos missile with an indigenous booster, which reinforces the Navy’s commitment to India’s self-reliance. The statement further said that the missile was test-fired from the Guided Missile Destroyer Warship INS Mormugao. BrahMos Aerospace is continuously working on increasing indigenous content in the missile.
INS Mormugao has been designed by the indigenous organization of the Indian Navy. It is built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited Mumbai. Equipped with modern weapons capable of nuclear, biological and chemical warfare, the ‘Mormugao’ ship is the new force of the Indian Navy, which is to be equipped with BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. It was commissioned into the Navy fleet at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on December 18 last year in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. It is the second stealth guided missile destroyer built under Project 15B.
Earlier, on March 05, the Indian Navy successfully test-fired the indigenous BrahMos missile from INS Kolkata in the Arabian Sea from the same ship. Even at that time, this missile successfully targeted its target by hitting the target accurately. Its booster has been designed by DRDO. The Navy successfully test-fired the anti-ship version of the BrahMos cruise missile jointly with the Andaman and Nicobar Command in April last year.
