Washington, May 14 (Hindustan). Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta of Indian origin in America has been entrusted with important responsibility in the Ministry of External Affairs. The US Senate confirmed her appointment as ‘Ambassador at Large’ for global issues related to women in the State Department.

The State Department tweeted on Friday that it was impressed by Geeta Rao Gupta’s efforts to promote the rights of women and girls through US foreign policy. Geeta’s name was confirmed to the post by a vote of 51-47 in a Senate vote earlier this week.

Indian-American Geeta Rao Gupta has worked closely with various agencies and programs of the United Nations (UN). She also served as the executive director of the UN Foundation’s 3D Program for Girls and Women. Gupta was nominated for the new role by President Joe Biden.

Peter Yeo, Senior Vice President, UN Foundation, and Michelle Milford Morse, Vice President, Strategy for Girls and Women, UN Foundation, said Gita Gupta has an important role in American global leadership. Both expressed hope that Dr. Gupta will fulfill her new role with distinction.
